It's safe to say that people are using makeup less frequently while social distancing and self isolating.
Still, there are some cosmetics worth using even when you're not going anywhere. Insider spoke with a wide range of people — including journalists, estheticians, veterinary technicians, and more — about the beauty products they say they can't get enough of.
From hand cream to lip masks, here's what they recommend.
Colourpop's Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer provides just enough coverage for virtual meetings and FaceTime calls.
Maegann, a licensed esthetician, told Insider that she loves Colourpop's tinted moisturizer, which retails for $14.
"I love it because it has a decent amount of coverage, but doesn't leave that weird, kind-of-wet feeling that most tinted moisturizers seem to," she said. "And it's great for a time like now because it's just a quick little pick-me-up without having to wear too much."
She also recommends Skin Food's $14 Rice Brightening Scrub Foam, as it's gentle enough to use everyday.
O'Keefe's Working Hands can combat dryness that occurs when washing your hands frequently.
The Mask of Magnaminty from Lush is ideal for days when your skin needs to be refreshed.
Jamie, a veterinary technician, described Lush's Mask of Magnaminty as her "lifeline." Made from Kaolin clay and peppermint oil, the product retails between $14.95 and $39.95 depending on the size you purchase.
"It refreshes my skin and cools it so I don't feel like I've been in the house for three days straight," she told Insider.
Shiseido's Clarifying Cleansing Foam will last you a long time, so you won't have to make multiple trips to the store.
Jasmine, a beauty brand employee, is fond of Shiseido's Clarifying Cleansing Foam, which retails for $36.
"It doesn't strip my skin or dry it out, but it cuts through makeup and oil great," she said of the product. "The best part is that a little goes a long way, so I'm not worried about running out while social distancing."
The Glow Oil Lip + Cheek tint from Milk Makeup is great for a minimalist beauty routine.
Darcy Schild, a junior lifestyle reporter at Insider, said she's become a fan of this $15 product because it's multipurpose — it can add color to the lips and brighten cheeks.
The product is also available in five shades, all of which can apply sheer pigment, or more full-coverage layers.
R+Co's Bright Shadows Root Touch-Up Spray works wonders when you can't visit a salon.
Haley Valentine, a hairstylist who specializes in blonding and bridal styles, told Insider that the $26 spray can "hold you over until you're able to seek professional attention again." It's sold in seven different shades, and can be sprayed wherever you see gray hair.
"Stray away from at-home color with this root touch-up spray, and your hair and stylist will thank you later!" she said.
Trish McEvoy's Beauty Balm Instant Solutions is infused with sunscreen, which you'll need even if staying indoors.
Lindsay, an IT technician, said she's willing to splurge on the $87 balm because it "actually works." She added that it "primes and evens skin" while also adding brightness and hydration.
It's currently sold in four different shades, all of which are infused with sunscreen. As Insider's Samantha Grindell reported, sunscreen is crucial to protecting your skin while indoors, as UVA light can penetrate windows.
Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask can work as an overnight treatment, or an everyday lip balm.
Insider's lifestyle editor Micaela Garber and reporter Anneta Konstantinides recommend the $20 mask. It's made with vitamin C and antioxidants, as well as hyaluronic acid and minerals.
It's currently sold in five flavors, though the original Berry is arguably the most popular.
The L'essentials Micellar Cleansing Water from Luzern can benefit your skin, even if you're not wearing makeup for the time being.
Katie Sobelman, an esthetician and skin-care educator, says she's a fan of this organic $60 micellar water because it "cleanses, tones, and gently exfoliates the skin."
"All you have to do is wipe it on and leave it on — no rinsing necessary," she told Insider. "While being stuck at home might give you more time for a multi-step skin-care routine, I think it can also create a lack of motivation for normal things, like washing your face."
"Having one product that removes impurities, adds hydration, balances pH, and dissolves dead skin in a matter of seconds is incredibly handy when things like getting dressed for the day are challenging enough as it is," she added.
The Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant from Elizabeth Arden is another option to consider for dry spots.
Insider's style reporter Celia Fernandez says she's been using the $24 cream on her cuticles and lips while social distancing.
According to Elizabeth's Arden's website, the cream is "dermatologist-tested and clinically shown to hydrate and protect skin for eight hours."
First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream promises to provide "intense hydration."
In an email sent to Insider, YouTuber Kathleen Lights shared a few products that she's been using while staying indoors.
"During this time of social distancing, even though I am not leaving my house much, I'm loving at-home manicures using Lights Lacquer, Tatcha lip balm, and my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream."
According to the beauty mogul, she uses the latter product on her body and face because it's the "absolute best" at keeping her skin hydrated.
To keep your skin clear and fresh, consider Peach & Lily's Glass Skin Refining Serum.
Michelle Njoroge, a makeup artist, said she "simply cannot go without" the $39 serum, as it hydrates, smooths texture, limits wrinkles, and provides a glow. She said it also dries down with a tacky finish, which allows it to double as a primer.
"I saw results after about a month," she said of the product. "I would absolutely recommend that all skin types try this serum. I don't detect a fragrance but if it there is one, it quickly dissipates and has not caused any irritation."
